Reflections from the Lake
Currently available for book signings & readings.
About the book
At first glance, the Dueck cabin doesn’t hold much appeal for young Tracy Dueck; its plywood walls and plain brown exterior had yet to capture her heart. But the simple family abode on Canim Lake became a refuge for her through countless seasons as a newlywed, young mother, and nana.
Reflections from the Lake is a love letter to the place, and the family, Tracy holds dearest. In it, the seasoned host and cook shares her stories—along with treasured family recipes—of over 30 years of cabin visits, from Easter and summer vacations to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
About the author
Tracy Dueck has always enjoyed entertaining and the outdoors. For over 30 years, the cabin at Canim Lake brought the two together.
From early on, the owner and CEO of Tracycakes Bakery Café honed the skills that led her to open the very first Tracycakes in 2006. Together, Tracy and her team practice that same hospitality at both Tracycakes locations: Abbotsford and Murrayville.
In her off-hours, Tracy and her husband Ray are building new family memories at their property near Lac des Roche.

I could sense the joy
As I read this book, I could see in my mind’s eye the word-pictures; I could smell the lake and the fish; I could hear the laughter, the wind, the waves; I could taste the delicious food! Most of all, I could sense the joy and peace that the cabin provided for Tracy and her loved ones. This book was a wonderful, vicarious experience!

The essence of cabin life
Tracy has captured the essence of cabin life in this heartwarming story of love, loss and moving on to the next chapter - not reluctantly, but with eager anticipation to make new memories with her children and grandchildren. She chronicles special memories and events in a charming way, honestly sharing her deepest feelings and crediting her father-in-law, the founder of this special place, with helping her grow, by his example, into the daughter, wife, mom, grandmother, friend, and employer that she is today.
